Jonathan Prichard
Jonathan goes by JP here at SofaBedMattress. He is a 18 year veteran of the mattress industry and he is the CEO and founder of MattressInsider.com, the fastest growing custom mattress supplier in the US. JP is a well known mattress & sleep expert who has been featured on the Discovery Channel, PBS, Yahoo.com, Inc.com, Bustle.com, Huffington Post, Business.com, American Express, success.com, cobizmag.com, and more. The idea for MattressInsider.com was born around 2007. At the time, JP was working for a national mattress retailer when he noticed how difficult it was for customers to buy mattresses in unique sizes and shapes. He started out offering sofa bed mattresses and RV, Truck, Boat, Cot, and Round Beds came shortly after that. JP set out to start a company built on quality, transparency, integrity, and fairness. “Our customers deserve to know what’s ‘under the hood’, to receive great service from knowledgeable staff, and to get a high quality mattress at a competitive price.” As the CEO, some of JP’s responsibilities include component and material sourcing, product development/testing, marketing/advertising strategy, and building strategic relationships with our retail/wholesale customers, vendors, and the Mattress Insider team. When he isn’t daydreaming about mattresses, JP spends time with his family and participates in numerous hobbies which drive his wife crazy.
Jonathan Kraft
People generally call me after having a Back To The Future type moment: “Do you know what this means (Marty)? It means this damn thing doesn’t work!” I hunt and fix it.
Jonathan goes by JK. JK thought he broke his first laptop when it started making funny beeping noises 2 days after he got it (as a gift). Since then, he’s grown to be “that guy who knows a lot about web related stuff”. He believes in learning, and sharing what he learns to help people make informed decisions about their bodies and about how their choices affect the planet. He’s traveled to 43+ countries, speaks 3 languages (and wants to learn more), is certified in massage therapy, and would really like to be better at playing piano. You might catch him singing karaoke, going hiking, or reading poetry (in the times when he makes time to get away from work and his computer screen).
Dixie Norris
Dixie is part of our customer service team. She’s available to answer questions and help guide you in choosing the right mattress for your needs. She also helps out on the administrative side of things, processing orders and following up on special requests.
When Dixie isn’t at her desk, she enjoys spending time with her family: fishing, picnicking and enjoying our beautiful Colorado mountains. She also loves to experiment with unique arts & crafts, including painting landscapes in acrylic on pine bark. During quiet times, you may find her in her greenhouse, coaxing both vegetables and flowers to grow, or simply reading on the back porch.

When I’m not helping customers get a super cozy mattress and accessories, I’m usually gardening or taking pictures of birds in my backyard. I have lived in Colorado almost my entire life and love everything it has to offer with the fun and nature and delicious places to eat! Q- Will I still feel the metal bar?
A- All three mattresses use a heavy duty medical grade high density base foam designed to eliminate the metal bar sensation.
Q- Why don’t you carry spring sofa bed mattresses?
A- Generally this type of mattress is what is factory installed in your sofa bed and what’s mostly likely causing your problems. Sofa bed manufacturers realize that the mattress is not usually something that you’re considering when purchasing your sofa bed. Consequently, they go with the cheapest option they can get away with which is usually an innerspring mattress.
Q- Why are innerspring mattresses so uncomfortable?
A- It’s directly related to the 4.5″ mattress height limitation common with most sofa beds. In order for the mattress to be able to fold into the sofa, a low end bonnel innerspring unit with a very thin gauge steel would have be used. Generally the innerspring units are about 4″ thick leaving only .5″ for a padding layer on top (usually a cheap fiber pad).
Q- Are your foam sofa bed mattresses better than spring mattresses?
A- Yes. Our foam based mattresses can support around 65% more body weight than a traditional innerspring mattress. And because they contain no coils, you won’t feel the springs any more! Our foam sofa mattresses are designed to fold into your sofa just like a spring mattress. They can also withstand thousands of “opening” and “closing” cycles. In addition, foam based mattresses virtually eliminate transfer of motion between sleeping partners. So if one person gets up in the middle of the night, the other person usually doesn’t feel it.
Q- How do I know your mattress will fit into my sofa bed?
A- Our mattresses are designed to fit into 99% of sofa beds. Make sure to measure the length and width of your sofa bed mechanism before you order. Take the inside measurement of the frame and round down to the nearest inch. Do this for the length and the width. In addition, make sure to measure the height of your existing sofa mattress. If it’s less than 3.5″ thick, we strongly suggest calling us before you order as we may need to do a special order for you.
Q- Which of your three sofa mattress models is the best for my needs?
A- All three models are much better quality and a lot more comfortable then what comes standard with your sleeper sofa. The most important factors to consider when choosing between the three is comfort, support, and durability. Here are some suggestions:
Guest Bed: For those who are ordering a new mattress to be used mostly by guests, we would recommend the Deluxe CoolMAX® Sofa Bed Mattress with Memory Foam. This is because of the variety of comfort preferences of your over night guests. Some of your guests may like a hard bed, some may like a soft, and some will prefer something in the middle. The memory foam model is a good compromise as it’s about a 4.5 on the 1 to 10 scale where the number 10 is the softest. Not too hard…not too soft.
Your Bed: If you are the only one sleeping on it, we suggest ask yourself how you want the mattress to feel. If you like a medium firm feel we’d recommend the memory foam. If you prefer something more towards the firmer side then we’d recommend the Natural Latex Sofa Bed Mattress.
Above Average Weight: Both the memory foam and the latex models are rated to support two adults each weighing up to 250 lbs. Although both mattresses can handle more weight, most sofa bed frame mechanisms are only rated for two adults at a maximum of 500 lbs total.
Durability: Both the memory foam and latex models are designed for approximately 7-10 years of use if they are being slept on every day. If it’s being used less than every day, you can expect a longer life span. The Zen Sofa Bed Mattress is designed for approximately 4-5 years of every night use.
Q- The Zen Sofa Bed Mattress is the cheapest of the three models. Is it going to be better than what I already own?
A- The Zen Sofa Bed Mattress is actually a great choice if you don’t wish to spend a lot of money on a replacement. Although this model doesn’t use memory foam or latex, it still utilizes a high density foam base layer to eliminate the biggest complaint…the metal bar problem. It also comes with a very soft organic cotton cover which is removable and machine washable.
Q- We need a new mattress asap. How quickly can you deliver?
A- We offer an expedited shipping option for our most popular model called the Deluxe CoolMAX® Sofa Bed Mattress with Memory Foam. When expedited shipping is selected, the mattress will ship out within 24 business hours from our warehouse in Pennsylvania or in Colorado. Depending on how far you are from our locations, transit time is generally anywhere between 1-5 business days. The Zen Sofa Bed Mattress can also be shipped out within 24 business hours from the warehouse in Georgia. Transit time is also between 1-5 business days depending on the destination.
